From brand and patent law to contract development and negotiations, you'll be challenged and gratified by a role with Target Legal Affairs.A role in Food Safety means working in a critical area that will support Target's efforts to identify, prioritize and minimize areas of food safety risk as well as proactively educate and equip team members by providing simplified tools, processes and training. You will have a number of resources available to you as you leverage technology, metrics, reporting and communication to monitor and drive compliance in this critical area.As a Food Safety Risk Manager, you will be the subject matter expert for stores on all things Food Safety.  You will support an entire region of stores which will include Food and Beverage Directors, District Team Leaders, Group Vice Presidents and store team members. Routine tasks will include Alert One responses, food safety incident remediation, health inspection and assessment remediation, and store visits to train and coach. Projects include supporting new Food and Beverage initiatives, process improvements, Food & Beverage Director training and market conference calls.Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.
  • Reports to Director, Stores Food Safety
  • Provides front-line support to store TMs supporting the Food and Beverage strategy to enable Store TMs to be successful in understanding and executing store programs, processes and requirements
    • Answers and troubleshoots store questions (e.g., store mySupports, Alert One response)
    • Provides assistance in the development of successful remediation plans
    • Coaches stores and provides follow up on issues identified by stores/HQ/FESQA/Business partners
  • Assists and supports Food & Beverage Directors with data and metrics to drive a food safety culture in each Region/Group
  • Assists stores with resolving non-emergency regulatory visit findings and information requests from agencies
    • Ensures store regulatory visit reporting (including health department and country of origin labeling)
    • Documents and manages remediation plans to completion
  • Collaborates with FESQA partners on problem solving compliance and program gaps, training, and vendor support.
  • Verifies program implementation and execution effectiveness by assessing, remediating and escalating, as necessary, compliance by stores to required recordkeeping and reporting, e.g., temperature logs, cleaning and sanitation logs, pest observation log, store self-assessment logs, TM illness log, guest incident reports, regulatory visit reports
  • Ensures Stores Workbench content is accurate and up-to-date, e.g., required logs, worksheets, forms, processes, FESQA training, food audit information, etc., to maintain a reliable source of truth for stores
  • Travels to stores, as necessary, to verify new process implementation or remediation effectiveness.

  • Four year college degree, preferably in food science or related discipline
  • 3-8 years of relevant work experience (i.e. grocery/food service)
  • Ability to build strategic vision and drive organizational change
  • Experience influencing key business partners, including senior leadership, without authority
  • Program and process management/ownership experience
  • Ability to operate in an ambiguous and rapidly changing work environment
  • Must be comfortable working independently, with minimal oversight, setting own objectives and measuring against goals

  • Recent retail/grocery store experience
  • Proficient in Food Safety and familiar with FDA Model Food Code
  • CP-FS, REHS certifications preferred
