Clinical Nurse Educator - Emergency Department
This position is located at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. The Emergency Department (ED) is organized to provide highly skilled nursing care to patients of all Emergency Severity Index (ESI) acuity level presenting to the ED. This includes ST elevation MI, acute stroke symptoms, sepsis and other medical/surgical/mental health emergencies. Patients arrive via ambulance, public transportation, private car or from within the medical center outpatient arena.
We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Educator who will be responsible for the overall orientation, ongoing education and competency validation of staff within the Emergency Department. This will include orientation of new employees and evaluation of their progress in addition to developing, implementing and evaluating any learning plans for improvement. The successful candidate is poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and ethnic backgrounds. S/he must be self-motivated and a team-player, who makes caring for veterans a priority while demonstrating customer service principles in all aspects of work. In this role, the Nurse Educator demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. Proficiency in emergency/critical care will be expected.
The population served includes all employees, nursing staff, support staff, patients and families seeking care and receiving treatment in the Emergency Department. The Educator will work collaboratively with Employee Education and associated services within the medical center in the development, implementation and evaluation of patient care service and educational programs and initiatives. S/he will actively participate in workshops/continuing education programs designed for career advancement as well as clinical care and training of staff in the Emergency Department. This position requires flexibility in schedule and assignments.
Work schedule: Part-time (.9), weekdays, primarily day/evening rotation. However the schedule may be variable to meet program demands. This position is divided, with .5 FTE of the work as an educator and .4 FTE as a staff nurse in the Emergency Department.
Preferred Education/Experience: Minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred; 2 or more years of RN experience in ED or critical care settings strongly preferred.
