GENERAL EQUIPMENT MECHANIC
Works under the general supervision of the carpenter foreman, a higher-grade worker or supervisor assigns work orally or through work orders. Refers to manufacturer service manuals which typically contain schematics, specifications, parts numbers and troubleshooting charts which outline common equipment malfunctions and solutions for repairs. Selects tools and equipment best suited for the job, decides on the methods and techniques to use and carries out assignments as assigned.Responsibilities
The incumbent has installation and maintenance responsibilities for a wide range of equipment and furniture having mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic parts, components and assemblies.Incumbent works with sheet metal to make small boxes, pans, holders, tags, straps, patches and repair furniture and equipment.
They perform operational checks, visually check for worn or damaged parts,disassemble, make necessary adjustments, repair or replace defective parts,clean, lubricate and reassemble the equipment. Also, must adhere to strict preventive maintenance schedules.
Applies trade practices in diagnosing equipment malfunctions by referring to manufacturer's diagrams, specifications, schematics and using test equipment such as pressure gauges, feeler gages, continuity testers, volt and ohmmeters.
The shop has welders that can do a lot of distinct functions. There is Arc(stick) welder that can be used on steel, cast iron, stainless steel and sheet metal. The arc sticks we have can be used horizontally and the stainless steel can also be used vertically.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Full Time Days-Occasional weekend/holiday shift coverage and early morning.
