The Clinical Dietitian will be involved in the professional practice of dietetics, with minimal supervision in accordance with the guidance set forth in Nutrition and Food Service policies and procedures and VA regulations governing the practice of dietetics. This Clinical Dietitian is assigned to HBPC program and will work at Montevideo CBOC.Responsibilities
Nutrition Program Development and Education:
Assesses educational program needs and provides nutrition counseling for individuals and groups (including significant others), incorporating a learning approach that considers the cultural, religious, socio-economic, educational, and medical situation of the patient.
Evaluates achievement of learning objectives by the patient and/or family. Uses motivational interviewing techniques that are patient centered.
Conducts a comprehensive nutrition assessment according to policy to determine nutritional status, using the Nutrition Care Process, which may include nutrition focused physical findings.
Develops and implements an individualized plan for medical nutrition therapy in accordance with the patient's medical program goals and objectives.
Maintains productivity standards and safe work practices, effective time management, and prioritizing of tasks.
Assists in developing and revising patient education materials, clinical forms, and protocols.
Assists in achieving compliance with regulatory agency standards, including state, federal, and Joint Commission standards.
Communicates with supervisor, co-workers and Health Care System staff in order to assure work coverage and prioritization, including use of computer hardware and software.
Supports Performance Improvement activities by participating in the development of nutritional care indicators, evaluation criteria, collecting continuous quality improvement data, monitoring outcomes and initiating corrective actions.
May participate in the design and implementation of clinical research activities in the Health Care System as the clinical nutrition member.
Participates in planning and developing nutrition-related policies, procedures, and goals.
Participation as a Member of the Health Care Team:
Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team which includes physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals.
Maintains dietetic registration, competencies and continuing education requirements.
Work Schedule: Tours are from 8-4:30pm for a total of 32 hours a pay period, Monday - Friday, work days are subject to rotate based on the needs of the department and Veterans.
