The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General seeks Financial Analyst to join the Office’s Charities Division. This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference by working closely with the attorneys in the division as part of investigations, legal actions, and other initiatives that ensure nonprofit organizations properly manage and use their charitable assets for the benefit of the Minnesota public.
Position Description. The position involves investigation, review, and critical analysis of nonprofit organizations’ financial and other documents—such as tax returns, financial statements, audits, and general ledgers—to detect any fraud that may be occurring and prevent the misuse or wasting of charitable assets. Financial analysts work collaboratively with attorneys in the division by assisting and advising them on the results of their investigations and analysis, and in determining the best manner to correct any questionable practices that were uncovered.
Qualifications. Applicants should have at least a bachelor’s degree in an accounting- or finance-related field, prior knowledge of or willingness to learn accounting rules and procedures, excellent analytical and oral communication skills, outstanding judgment and character, and a good work ethic and professional demeanor. Applicants must have the drive and ability to represent the Minnesota public effectively and with distinction.
Student Loan Forgiveness. Public service with the Attorney General’s Office may qualify applicants to have part of their student loans forgiven under a federal student loan forgiveness program for state government employees.
