Description: About Us: Target is an iconic brand, a Fortune 50 company and one of America's leading retailers.  Right on pace with Target's distinctive retail brand, Target Store Operations is continuing to transform the way it operates. Here, your work directly supports the store mission to be the Guest's favorite through successfully developing and communicating the processes for operations, style and experience, new structures, new operating models and new technology, and utilizing workforce management activities for our 1,800 locations nationwide. Store Operations manages and enhances the informational resources for researching and resolving operational issues, while guiding and communicating with the field team and leaders who use them. Are you a customer service enthusiast who can actively listen to many points of view and then visualize how they'll perform when operationalized in a store? Are you happy to partner with leaders as well as field team members who are often the experts on how well a process is working? Can you creatively envision more efficient processes and how they'll deliver a better experience for guests and team members? Do you possess the innovative mindset to question the status quo, and the confidence to work under varying degrees of ambiguity and well-informed experimentation? Then you'll have success on one of our dynamic teams.
As the Director of Labor Engineering you will play a key role in leading the continued emphasis on driving efficiency in order to fuel the experience for our guest.  As you drive to achieve that goal you will create strong partnerships within Stores Operations and across Target to understand, assess, and optimize workload throughout Target Stores.  You will lead, develop and set the vision for a team of operations engineers, with labor and industrial engineering backgrounds, who collectively have responsibility for all of the Labor Standards in a Target Store.  In leading that team, you will ensure that the labor engineering team creates and maintains a catalog of labor standards that describe workload in all areas of Target Stores.  You will utilize the well-formed labor standards to help evolve the payroll planning process in Stores from a sales-based methodology to a workload based methodology to ensure that Target is able to schedule the right work, in the right place, at the right time.  While in this role, in order to validate labor standards and scheduling functionality, you will travel occasionally (5% - 10% of the time) to solicit feedback from Stores partners and observe the outcome of your work.   You will ensure that the workload is properly funded with hourly payroll in Stores by developing a deep understanding of the payroll planning process and through close partnership with Target's Stores Finance team.  You will ensure that the workload is distributed appropriately to each Store's schedule by understanding each process in the Store and the business cycle associated with each process.  You will also partner closely with the product and technology owners on the scheduling team at HQ in order to ensure that the labor standards methodology is accurately reflected in the scheduling strategy.  As Target's strategy continues to evolve it is imperative that the workload impact on Stores is well understood and as the Director of Labor Engineering you will be responsible for modeling labor impact to describe the efficiency gained in a process or payroll required to support a new service that will drive guest experience.  You will also utilize the understanding of Stores workload to assess the business value of proposed initiatives and inform the priority of potential projects or initiatives being tested.      Job duties may change at any time due to business needs
