City of Virginia, MN is located in St. Louis County in northeastern Minnesota, approximately 200 miles north of the Minneapolis/Saint Paul metropolitan area and 60 miles north of the City of Duluth.    Within the City there was 

The City's economy is affected by its location on the edge of Superior National Forest and its proximity to Voyageur's National Park and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, which attract a large tourist population.  The City works with Iron Range Resources (“IRR”) to improve the local economy through the development and improvement of local tourist attractions.  The City also serves as a regional trade center, enjoying strong retail business, as well as increased growth in small industry. 

The City has a Mayor-Council form of government, with all powers of the City vested in the Council.  The Mayor is elected to serve a four-year term of office, while the six Council members serve overlapping four-year terms.
