System Director Supply Chain Operations

This position provides leadership and direction to supply chain operations staff of more than 240 FTEs at six hospital sites, one ambulatory surgery center (ASC) and more than 40 clinics of Fairview Medical Group (FMG). Oversees more than $300 million annual supplies and capital budget. Directs the activities of all logistics processes including transportion from the vendors/distributors, internal distribution of supplies, management of inventory (including those booked as assets and expenses), appropriate staging of products for consumption, and product disposition. In addition, this position also manages system wide moveable medical equipment management program including disposal of equipment (life cycle management). Responsible for the coordination of all supply chain process improvement activities at hospital sites and clinics and ensuring that appropriate technology is applied to deliver 5Rs,(the right product in the right quantity at the right time to the right place at the right price). Acts as a positive change agent and builds collaborative relationships with site administration, clinicians, group purchasing organization (GPO) and vendors. Negotiates service contracts related to med/surg supplies distribution, equipment rentals, and supply chain IT solutions. Participates in GPO committees as needed. Establishes appropriate metrics and monitoring mechanism to effectively manage SC functions and teams.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, healthcare administration, business administration, operations management or equivalent. 12 years supply chain/logistics management experience in non-healthcare industry or 7 years supply chain management experience in healthcare industry with at least five years experience in managing employees. Knowledge of and work experience with materials management information systems and technology including automated supply cabinetry and inventory systems. Prior experience with budget development. Position requires understanding of the current and emerging information systems related to vendor transport, distribution, staging, inventory and disposition of supplies, equipment and materials. Experience in work monitoring and measurement, activity based management, building work based objectives and variation analysis. Extensive understanding of materials management logistics and solutions to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the various work processes. Applicants with an understanding and experience in the application of activity management techniques and related work productivity measurements will be given priority. Extensive experience dealing with and presenting financial and business issues to senior managers.

 

Preferred: Master’s degree or JD. Prior experience with budget development in excess of $100 million. Experience in managing employees at multiple work sites in a matrix based organization.
