Position Description

Develop and implement core training programs and resources for the Claims Department staff as well as deliver and provide feedback on performance and additional training needs for new employees.  Develop, monitor, and maintain the Claims Department work instructions in compliance with all regulatory requirements.  Assist with the development and presentation of UCare sponsored training programs. Provide technical assistance including: test new configurations in training and production environments; test new installations or upgrades in software; research and assist in documentation used for training and department work instructions.   

·Develop, maintain, implement and audit core training curriculum and materials in collaboration with managers and supervisors.  Identify knowledge gaps and training opportunities to enhance examiner performance.  Ensure timely and accurate delivery of training programs for new and existing claims staff, including conducting cross-training.

·Serve as an internal and external department resource for questions regarding complex claim issues that require processing or testing accuracy.

·Work with the claims leadership team to implement work instructions.  Develop training sessions to educate staff on new or updated work instructions. 

·Build, design, and test scenarios for new projects or changes identified by the leadership team. 

·Assist in identifying issues and recommending changes to enhance claims processing functions.

·Review current work assignment and incorporate process changes to improve individual and department procedures. 

·Accurately interpret health plan member certificates of coverage, provider contracts, state and federal rules and regulations, and UCare policies and procedures. 

·Collaborate with other UCare departments and committees to analyze, develop and deliver training programs for all UCare staff.

·Perform other projects and duties as assigned.


Two-year Associates Degree preferred with course work in medical terminology, CPT-4, HCPC's, and ICD-10 coding required. Relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a two-year degree.

Required Experience

Minimum of five years' experience in Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial Insurance claims processing.  Knowledge of PHI, CPT, HCPC's, ICD-10, and medical terminology.  Experience with employee training, system development, testing methodologies, and ability to perform analysis.  Demonstrated experience with Outlook, Word, Access and Excel.  Intermediate knowledge of DHS and CMS claims processing guidelines.

Preferred Experience

Advanced knowledge of Medicaid and Medicare.  Amisys Claims System and MACESS Exp experience a plus.
