Shift MN Program Specialist
JustUs Health, formed through a merger between the Minnesota AIDS Project (MAP) and Rainbow Health Initiative (RHI), envisions a Minnesota where people from diverse gender, sexual, and cultural communities experience health and wellness in powerfully inclusive environments. Founded in 1983, MAP is widely recognized for the impact of its prevention and support services for individuals living with HIV or at risk of HIV infection. RHI, founded in 2001, advances the health of the LGBTQ communities through research, education and advocacy. Together, JustUs Health will lead work to achieve health equity for diverse gender, sexual, and cultural communities.
JustUs Health seeks a Shift MN Program Specialist who will support a group of LGBTQ young adults (roughly ages 18-25) working to reduce the harm on LGBTQ communities caused by corporate tobacco. Shift MN works to change community norms around tobacco use in LGBTQ communities. The Program Specialist will develop and execute LGBTQ-specific tobacco control campaigns, work with partner organizations active in tobacco control, and engage in other creative forms of community education and outreach. Shift MN works to connect how race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and other facets of identity impact tobacco use and how they are connected to broader access to health and wellness.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
The Shift MN Program Specialist will be responsible for managing the Shift MN coordinators in planning and executing at least 4 community outreach and education events, planning and executing a tobacco control media campaign, maintaining an active social media presence, and representing Shift MN in local tobacco control coalitions. Additionally, the position also includes a policy, systems, and environment component that will initially focus on integrating LGBTQ tobacco cessation resources into JustUs Health’s behavioral health clinic.
This position does require the Shift MN Program Specialist to maintain a tobacco free public image.
- Strong connection to LGBTQ communities
- Knowledge and passion for LGBTQ health and wellness, particularly around tobacco control and prevention
- Ability to develop trusting relationships with diverse individuals from many different backgrounds
- Passion for supporting LGBTQ youth/young adult directed programming
- Writing and public speaking skills
- Comfort with computers and a variety of social media tools
- Able to work occasional evening and weekend events
- Comply with policies and procedures, including maintaining a tobacco free environment and public image
- Hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to travel, as required
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week, generally Mo-Fr 9-5, some evenings and weekends.
