Primary Function:

The maintenance position is expected to ensure that jurisdictional or assigned sites are running as efficiently, economically and safely as possible. This is achieved through a thorough knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, vehicles and shelter equipment of all kinds paired with highly developed problem solving and prioritization skills.

Essential Responsibilities:

-Duties could be performed at all AHS locations, including AHS affiliates

-Complete awareness of needs in assigned sites for all levels of activity

-Perform, track and recommend preventative maintenance on all systems in assigned sites

-Use priority designations to complete work keeping efficiency, safety and customer service top of mind.

-Responsible for on-call activities as assigned using a rotational system with peers.

-Respond to and update work requests within required timelines and keep accurate records of work performed

-Develop, plan and lead projects as requested or assigned

-Operate and maintain all AHS and affiliates vehicles in accordance with Department of Transportation and organizational guidelines, as required to keep them working efficiently and safely

-Perform general maintenance within legal guidelines for licensure / certification on mechanical, electrical and building systems of all buildings

-Develop good working relationships with internal / external customers while demonstrating AHS qualities of leadership.

-Develop good working relationships with assigned vendors including accountability and quality control while demonstrating AHS qualities of leadership. This is done in partnership with the Facilities Manager position and approved AHS vendor lists.

Additional duties:

-Assist with special events as requested and assigned

-Assist with extra projects as requested and assigned

-Work with AHS volunteers in a positive and effective way to facilitate meaningful volunteer engagement.

Qualifications Required:

-Ability to be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision

-Have a thorough understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems

-Have a thorough understanding of equipment and building support systems to repair and keep in good working order

-Hold valid driver's license and a good driving record

-Meet Department of Transportation certification requirements to qualify to drive designated organizational vehicles and meet all other Department of Transportation/Regulated Transportation standards and requirements.

-Boilers license, and preferable a Building Operation Technician or Systems Maintenance Technician certification

-Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of euthanasia Physical and Mental Demands and

Working Conditions Work Environment:

-Work environment will be based on location and timing, it could be wet, loud and slippery.

-There could be times of working with hazardous situations and you need to be aware of safety concerns

-The position is physical and will require lifting, bending, twisting, climbing and other physical items

-Animal shelter areas may be humid, noisy, or odorous Hourly rate


- $20.00/hr
