A role within Merchandise Excellence means you are a part of Merchandising's most innovative and highly visible new team supporting the Chief Merchandising Officer (CMO) and his Chief of Staff. You will be a trusted advisor to Merchandising leaders by developing analytics, modeling, and actionable insights that drive guest preference and financial performance. You will lead through consultative problem-solving, hypothesis-driven data analysis, and structured project management.

As a Merchandise Excellence Lead Consultant, you'll take the lead by identifying business opportunities that drive growth, innovation, profitability, and market share gains. You will translate these opportunities into tangible project plans that yield actionable strategies. You will own projects through the entire project lifecycle; from project definition to execution, while developing and managing project plans, stakeholders, timelines, and communication. You will direct CFTs big and small and collaborate across the organization with partners in Finance, Enterprise Strategy, Marketing, Stores, core Merchandising, and more.

You will use your strategic mindset, data analysis and modeling capabilities to advance solutions that drive traffic, basket, guest acquisition/conversion, and loyalty. You will proactively conduct enterprise, cross-channel and cross-category business assessments that evaluate and model multiple variables and scenarios. This includes analyzing, interpreting, and synthesizing findings from all relevant sources (including guest data, financial reporting, market insights, category managers, vendors, and competitive analysis) to derive actionable insights and strategies. You will identify when deeper analytics are needed, and partner with data science to develop new technology, models and tools. It will be your responsibility to stay current on industry research, market sales data, emerging and distressed retailers, competitive trends and movement and conduct competitive shopping activities as applicable. You will balance the use of qualitative data (what the guest says) with quantitative data (what the guest does) to create optimal outcomes.

You will draw on your communication and relationship building skills to facilitate understanding, build alignment, and inspire action. This includes synthesizing and distilling analyses to focus on the most critical issues; and creating compelling PowerPoint presentations that simplify complex findings. You will organize and align teams to drive action on critical strategies as needed.

About you:
  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience
  • 6 years of Merchandising, Finance, or Corporate Strategy experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including problem structuring, quantitative reasoning, and analysis
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate trends and analytics into actionable recommendations
  • Demonstrated analytical aptitude and complex modeling skills with experience across a variery of analytical tools
  • Ability to work independently on ambiguous projects; comfort with driving decision-making in spite of incomplete information
  • Strong relationship building skills and proven track record of managing cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong people management and communication skills, including the ability to influence at all levels
  • Ability to create compelling materials to align clients and stakeholders (PowerPoint decks), and verbal storytelling/presentation skills to various levels of audience
  • Track record of success in dealing effectively with complex projects entailing frequent interaction with senior executives
