JustUs Health, formed through a merger between the Minnesota AIDS Project (MAP) and Rainbow Health Initiative (RHI), envisions a Minnesota where people from diverse gender, sexual, and cultural communities experience health and wellness in powerfully inclusive environments. Founded in 1983, MAP is widely recognized for the impact of its prevention and support services for individuals living with HIV or at risk of HIV infection. RHI, founded in 2001, advances the health of the LGBTQ communities through research, education and advocacy. Together, JustUs Health will lead work to achieve health equity for diverse gender, sexual, and cultural communities.

Description: JustUs Health ( seeks a part-time Program Associate for a year-long position with Shift MN. Shift MN is a program that advocates for healthier LGBTQ+ communities through outreach, education, social media, and policy, with an emphasis on severing the ties between corporate tobacco and LGBTQ+ communities. Shift MN works to highlight how race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and other facets of identity impact tobacco use and how they are tied to broader access to health and wellness. The Associate will be part of a cohort of LGBTQ+ young adults working on commercial tobacco control through community outreach and education, research, event planning, and social marketing and networking. The ideal candidate will be passionate about using their skills to change community norms around tobacco use, develop and execute anti-tobacco social marketing campaigns, and engage in other creative forms of connection with LGTBQ+ communities.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a health communications campaign for LGBTQ+ young adults
  • Participate in events where Shift has a presence, including Pride festivals and LGBTQ events
  • Plan health/wellness events with community partners
  • Write blog posts, post on social media accounts, and increase the web presence of Shift MN

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong connection to local LGBTQ communities, particularly LGBTQ+ youth and young adults
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and effectively in a team setting
  • Tobacco free
  • Awareness of other organizations /general landscape of broader Twin Cities communities
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms and excited to use them as tools
  • Familiarity and experience with anti-racist and anti-oppression practices
  • Committed to uprooting transmisogyny from self and community
  • Self-awareness and reflection around personal experiences of race, gender, class, and ability
  • Writing and public speaking skills
  • Knowledge and passion for LGBTQ+ health, particularly community health and tobacco use
  • Working knowledge of local LGBTQ+ communities and health disparities
