The Development Director plays a highly visible role in developing and leading STC strategies focused on increasing contributed income and strengthening our philanthropic base.  This position is an integral member of the leadership team and plays a key role in achieving the goals and objectives of the organization.  The Development Director must possess the experience, skills and diplomacy necessary to think strategically, identify new funding opportunities, and foster relationships and partnerships that move STC forward in achieving its mission.  The Development Director possesses a broad array of skills and abilities which include grant writing, event planning and management, as well as a thorough knowledge of best practices in fundraising.

Key areas of leadership and responsibility

  • Provide strategic direction for all fundraising activities
  • Determine and deliver annual contributed income goals
  • Identify, solicit and cultivate individual donors and major gifts
  • Lead efforts to obtain general operating and program support from foundations, businesses and grants, which includes identifying new funding opportunities
  • Identify opportunities and secure sponsorships for productions and events
  • Collaborate with Board and staff to develop fundraising tools to maximize fundraising success
  • Convene and support the work of the Board’s Fundraising Committee
  • Oversee the planning of special events to promote STC and engage supporters to invest in our success
  • Coordinate donor communication, including acknowledgement letters, invitations and follow-ups
  • Track contributed income activity and maintain donor database
  • Evaluate and analyze the success of fundraising efforts


  • Passionate about STC’s mission, vision and values
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of experience in nonprofit development, including grant writing and event planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Continuous improvement mindset; values new ideas and opportunities to improve
  • Competent with Microsoft office software
  • Ability to work with complex databases
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
