The role

Insurance Support Reps are the backbone of SFM’s overall operation and a gateway to a rewarding career at SFM! As the Insurance Support Rep, you will provide high quality and timely support to internal and external customers. Work will entail being an active team member in a multi-functional, fast-paced, detail driven, and paperless environment. Duties include analyzing and processing agency correspondence (including scanning/indexing of mail and compiling client mailings), policy applications, first reports of injury, and requests relating to underwriting/claims functions. SFM will provide you the necessary training to be successful.


  1. Process insurance applications by searching database for previous submissions, searches Internet databases for e-mod information and accurately enters information into database.
  2. Enter relevant information from imaged First Reports of Injury to create claim and selects correct policy within 24 hours of receipt.
  3. Enter relevant information from imaged medical bills to create payments in database within the guidelines or the team’s partnership agreement.
  4. Professionally answers phone calls from external customers, including agents, policyholders, medical providers and claimants.
  5. Open, sort and prepare incoming mail for scanning and daily, and review images for clarity and positioning. 
  6. Scan incoming mail and closed files.
  7. Perform other assignments as required to support business units.

We’re looking for

 High school graduate or equivalent.
 One or more years of general office experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 Business experience in an insurance support environment, preferably workers’ compensation and/or casualty insurance is highly preferred.
 Strong customer service skills and interpersonal skills.
 Solid data entry and keyboarding skills. .
 Ability to operate a PC phone console and/or multi-line telephone system.
 Ability to operate a variety office equipment.
 Strong PC skills (preferably in a Windows environment).
 Scanning skills associated with working within a mostly paperless environment.
 Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
 Demonstrated ability managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
 Ability to follow directions and adhere to team procedures.
 Solid communication skills, both oral and written.

Physical Requirements

Work takes place in a paperless environment within an office, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, which requires being stationary for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and work with close vision. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 30 pounds. Work is performed indoors with little to no exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions.
