A role with Engineering and Technical Design means being on a team of engineers, technical designers, and scientists who create products that truly embody the intent of Target-owned brands. Here, you'll partner with our research, design, quality, and compliance teams to understand guest needs, performance requirements, manufacturing capabilities, testing protocols and develop products that meet them. You'll leverage collective expertise to control quality and develop new products. As an Associate Scientist, you'll focus on quality monitoring and control by maintaining a working knowledge of applicable government regulatory requirements, safety protocols and Target performance standards for products across assigned categories. Understanding benchmarks for specified owned brands to continuously evaluate and compare Target products to that of the competition and ensuring Target product meets or exceeds the performance of competitors' product. Partnering with Target Compliance and Quality Teams to develop performance testing protocols and creating product technical specifications and product quality standards.You will also develop new product concepts by researching and developing innovative product solutions that may include raw materials, constructions, manufacturing processes and technologies. Participating in ethnographic research to develop empathy for users and understanding how products are used in their natural settings. Creating product level technical strategies for formulation and materials based on business goals. Developing product specifications for industry leading formulations and materials. Evaluating product samples and communicating quality differences to the cross functional team. Recommending manufacturing partners, and collaborating with manufacturing partners to ensure products meet quality and price guidelines. Identifying and resolving testing issues during the development process. About you:
  • 4-year college degree in a science or technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 0-2 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable raw materials and their performance and usage.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to successfully work in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate business and technical details across various departments' levels.
  • Exhibits a basic knowledge of product formulation and manufacturing.
