The Department of Accounting and Finance at the College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University (CSB/SJU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position, to begin in August 2019. Primary responsibilities include teaching introductory and upper-level accounting and finance courses to undergraduate students in a liberal arts setting; developing an effective scholarly agenda; and engaging in professional service to the department, the college, and/or the community.
 
The CSB/SJU accounting program is one of the strongest in Minnesota, particularly in a liberal arts setting. Our faculty are dedicated to close working relationships with students to enhance not only student academic learning but overall student development. Year after year, our students' CPA pass rates are well above both state and national averages. The Department of Accounting and Finance believes that diversity and a broad, global perspective in higher education are vital to the health of our schools. The College of Saint Benedict (CSB), a liberal arts college for women, and Saint John's University (SJU), a liberal arts college for men, are located in the central lakes area of Minnesota, surrounded by more than 3,000 acres of pristine forests, prairies, and lakes. The campuses are minutes away from St. Cloud, an increasingly diverse regional center with a population of over 100,000, and 70 miles from Minneapolis and St. Paul.  Some CSB/SJU faculty and staff choose to reside locally, while others commute from the Twin Cities.  Both St. Cloud and the Twin Cities offer a wide range of fine arts, cultural, dining, recreational, and sporting opportunities.

Recent initiatives to create a dynamic general education curriculum and to develop plans for a new teaching and learning center demonstrate strong institutional support for faculty development. Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in accounting or closely related field (e.g., MBA or MBT) and a CPA license (active or inactive). Candidates who have a PhD in accounting do not need to hold a CPA certificate
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in accounting
  • Ability and interest in teaching several undergraduate-level accounting courses. Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in teaching Accounting Information Systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to articulate a plan of effective scholarship
  • A commitment to professional development
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment
  • Experience or commitment to supporting department initiatives in recruiting, retaining, and graduating candidates from underrepresented backgrounds
