ASSISTANT GENERAL COUNSELPosition DescriptionThis position is responsible to provide legal advice on a range of business and regulatory issues, including but not limited to provider payment and contracting, credentialing, information system contracting, and member privacy. Support the Chief Legal Officer in managing and coordinating responses to litigation and to government audits and investigations. Participate in product development, implementation and management, which may include providing legal advice on products in the health insurance exchange.·Understand UCare's business operations and goals, and the regulations and government contract requirements affecting UCare's business.·Participate in committees and workgroups as appropriate, including but not limited to the Credentialing Committee.·Advise Provider Relations & Contracting Department on provider contract issues, and maintain and update provider contract templates consistent with current business and regulatory requirements.·Respond to requests for advice and proactively identify potential legal issues; conduct related research and analysis, and clearly communicate advice and recommendations, including options where appropriate.·Review, draft, and negotiate as appropriate, contracts with vendors, working with business leaders to address business goals and communicate legal risks; oversee the Paralegal in managing vendor contract files.·Support the Chief Legal Officer in managing litigation, including working with outside counsel, determining strategy, and responding to discovery requests.·Collaborate with the Paralegal in maintaining contract templates for vendors and delegates, including information systems licensing, purchase and maintenance agreements, and advise Paralegal in responding to variations from template language.·Advise the Compliance, Accounting and Government Relations Departments regarding regulatory audits and investigations, as determined by the Chief Legal Officer.·Provide legal guidance as appropriate to the Privacy Officer, Information Security Officer and to business leaders facing data privacy issues.·Provide legal services as otherwise determined by the Chief Legal Officer.EducationLaw degree from accredited law school. License in good standing to practice in the State of Minnesota. Graduate or undergraduate degrees in health administration, health policy or business preferred.Required ExperienceThree years' experience as a practicing attorney focusing on health law and provider and/or health plan clients.Preferred ExperienceExperience practicing law in a managed care environment, advising clients on commercial insurance business and regulatory issues.THE UCARE DIFFERENCEUCare is proud to be a recognized Star Tribune Top Workplace for the 9th consecutive year.
