Ranked Faculty - Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at St. Catherine University invites applications for a 0.5 FTE part time rolling position at the rank of assistant professor.
Responsibilities: The selected candidate is expected to have responsibilities in teaching, research and service. The teaching load will vary but will usually consist of four labs and one lecture section per academic year. Lab assignments would be from general chemistry, chemistry in the health sciences, and biochemistry. The applicant would be expected to teach a lecture course for chemistry in the health sciences with the occasional opportunity to teach biochemistry. Applicants from all fields of chemistry are welcome, but preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in general chemistry and biochemistry.
Applicants should demonstrate excellence in teaching and a commitment to university service. The selected candidate will be responsible for advising undergraduate students and is expected to engage in service activities with colleagues, the department, campus, and professional organizations.
Applicants are expected to mentor one or two chemistry majors on their senior research projects each year. The department is equipped with state of the art instrumentation for teaching and research including a 400 MHz NMR, a LCQ-ion trap mass spectrometer, an X-ray diffractometer, a microwave reactor, a fluorometer, and equipment for protein expression and purification. Small internal grants are available to sponsor this work.
Requirements: Master's degree in chemistry or biochemistry and college level teaching experience in chemistry is required. Doctoral degree earned by September 2019 preferred, along with demonstrated evidence of a commitment to excellence in research and teaching.
