Position Details

Status:  Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt

Salary:  Starts at $14.00 per hour (Depending on Qualifications), monthly phone stipend

Location: City Center

Duration of Assignment: Position begins in May 2019, 5 days per week through August (negotiable start/end dates).

Hours: Varies based on business need; will include occasional evening, weekend and holiday hours onsite at Parks & Recreation programming and events. Position will average approximately 40/hours a week.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Recreation Manager and Communications Manager; receives work direction from Community Center, Recreation and Communications Division teams.

Position Responsibilities

The Marketing Intern supports the implementation of the Parks and Recreation online and social media marketing efforts. The Marketing Intern’s primary responsibilities include:

  1. Work collaboratively with Parks and Recreation Department and Communications staff on developing promotional content to be published across various online and social media channels.
  2. Create social media editorial calendar to ensure future success of marketing efforts.
  3. Research best practices and make recommendations for enhancing Parks and Recreation online and social media marketing efforts.
  4. Support social media engagement efforts targeted to focused market segments within the Eden Prairie community.
  5. Collaborate with staff to leverage a social media-based employee recruitment campaign.
  6. Take ownership of photography and videography for social media use at summer events and programs.

While these areas are the primary focus, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City. The Marketing Intern will collaborate with City staff from the Parks and Recreation Department as well as the Communications Division to ensure the successful execution of the Parks and Recreation Department’s online and social media marketing efforts.

Position Requirements

Education: High school diploma required; must be pursuing or have recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field such as marketing or communications.

Work Experience: Previous internship experience preferred. Must have experience working independently with minimal supervision in a busy environment.

Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of all social media channels and how to leverage social media engagement. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, One Note, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Proficiency in photography and videography and editing using personal smart phone.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills. Strong project management skills. Strong attention to detail. Driven, confident, assertive interpersonal skills.
