Status: Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt
Salary: Starts at $15.00 to $20.00 per hour, depending upon qualifications
Hours: Varies based on seasonal need; approximately 30 hours per week from May – August and an average of 10-15 hours per week September - April including evening and weekend hours as required.
Location: Parks and Recreation Department office, Art Center, and off-site for programs and events as required.
Reporting Relationship: Reports to Recreation Supervisor - Arts and Events
Recreation DivisionThe Recreation Services Division has the responsibility for managing all recreation facilities and providing a variety of affordable recreation programs and services for all age groups and people for all abilities. The staff in this division are responsible for the management of facilities such as the Community Center, the Senior Center, the Art Center and the Outdoor Center, as well as all other City park buildings and recreation facilities such as swimming beaches, sledding hill, amphitheatre and facilities on school property that are operated in partnership with the School District.
Position ResponsibilitiesPosition Details
The Recreation Lead- Events provides assistance to the Recreation Supervisor – Arts & Events in developing, planning, promoting, implementing, and evaluating events for the City. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
- Assists with the planning and implementation of community-wide events such as Arts in the Park, the 4th of July Hometown Celebration, PeopleFest!, and Fall Harvest, among others.
- Attend meetings and perform various administrative duties required for program and event planning and implementation. Coordinate event and program specific tasks including but not limited to supply acquisition, generating contracts for services, submitting payment requests for independent contractors, and evaluation analysis.
- Assist and support the implementation of administrative processes, policies, and procedures to ensure high quality events, programs, facilities, and services.
- Provide on-site coordination, leadership and troubleshooting for event logistics including set-up and tear-down.
- Utilize and become proficient in computer software programs such as RecTrac for program and facility management, Microsoft Office, and others as needed.
- Act as a positive role model to staff, volunteers, and participants.
While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.
Position RequirementsEducation: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and 3 years of study in a post-secondary curriculum with course work in event planning, parks and recreation, or related field required; CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in event planning and customer service/administrative support including large event implementation, working with outside vendors, data entry, word processing, and communications preferred. Strong communication and customer service skills. Excellent problem solving abilities and techniques and attention to detail. Experience with performing arts events preferred.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to frequently lift/carry/pull up to 35 lbs.; occasionally lift/carry/pull 35–75 lbs.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required. Experience with various software applications; registration and facility scheduling preferred.
