Position Details

Status:  Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt

Salary:  Starts at $15.00 to $18.00 per hour, depending upon qualifications

Hours:  Various, depending on candidate schedule and studio needs. Approximately 15 hours per week for summer season,     May – August (seasonal position).

Location:  Eden Prairie Art Center, 7650 Equitable Drive 

Reporting Relationship: Reports to  Recreation Supervisor - Arts and Events

Recreation Division

The Recreation Services Division has the responsibility for managing all recreation facilities and providing a variety of affordable recreation programs and services for all age groups and people for all abilities. The staff in this division are responsible for the management of facilities such as the Community Center, the Senior Center, the Art Center and the Outdoor Center, as well as all other City park buildings and recreation facilities such as swimming beaches, sledding hill, amphitheatre and facilities on school property that are operated in partnership with the School District.

Position Responsibilities

Position Details

The Studio Tech- Ceramics coordinates the ceramics/studio facility operations including but not limited to: managing two electric kilns and firing schedule, glazing, packaging work for pick-up, keeping studio organized and in good working order, opening and closing the building, and additional duties as needed. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

  • Provides excellent customer service to all Art Center patrons and ensures timely turnaround for project pick-up.
  • Works collaboratively with the Recreation Lead- Arts & Events and Art Center instructors to establish and maintain kiln-firing schedules and studio procedures.
  • Ensures a clean and safe environment at the Art Center.
  • Oversees safe use of equipment and supplies.
  • Provides administrative support for ceramics studio coordination.

While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

 

Position Requirements

Education:  B.A. or B.F.A. degree in art or related subject with at least 2 years of study in ceramics required. Consideration also given to those who are currently enrolled in one of the degree-seeking programs listed above and have at least 2 years of extensive experience in ceramics and/or studio management.

Work Experience: Previous ceramics studio experience and/or experience in an arts setting preferred.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to frequently lift/carry/pull up to 35 lbs.; occasionally lift/carry/pull 35–75 lbs.
