DESCRIPTION:

Under supervision of Technical Services Team members, perform work of moderate difficulty performing identification of insects in a team environment.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Examine adult and larval mosquito and black fly collections with a dissecting microscope; record results on appropriate forms; enter data into computer; compile collection summaries; prepare and maintain collection equipment; raise mosquito larvae to adults; drive to regional field offices to identify larval mosquito collections; perform control material resistance tests; perform miscellaneous field and/or light maintenance work as needed.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Responsibilities include: application of mosquito larvicides to catch basins Minimum high school education. Experience in use of taxonomic keys, equivalent experience, or demonstrated capability to perform duties is a plus.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Knowledge of biology and insect taxonomy is helpful; ability to operate microscope; ability to learn insect identification; ability to accurately record results of collections and experiments; knowledge of laboratory experimental procedures; ability to record and enter data into computer, ability to learn and perform appropriate operation of District vehicles and equipment.
