Description: Sr. Textile Designer
Under the direction of the Design Director, and in partnership with peers, develop and execute trend right graphics, prints and patterns that achieve overall design, brand and assortment strategy.
  • Responsible for designing the textile line for a brand or business for a given season, business segment or project. 
  • Trend Research and Development: Stays abreast of benchmarks and trends through regular research and sources of inspiration to identify recurring patterns and translates inspiration into a saleable trend. Uses discretion to design and curate key images, print/pattern, graphics, color stories, and techniques. Synthesizes and integrates information to ensure brand differentiation.  Creates Quarterly Pattern Direction for product category.
  • Brand Concept - Actively participates in creating and presenting art trend and concepts to Design and Merchant partners. Uses micro-moods and inspiration to develop and demonstrate a clear perspective on art trend for the brand/product. Independently selects materials (including art, tear samples, color, etc) to demonstrate clear POD (Point-of-View) and POD (Point of Difference) for brand/product boards and meet Textile Concept Manager's overall creative direction. Using CAD software to design, modify and resize art.  This may include body fills and placements were applicable to help demonstrate creative vision and brand integrity.
  • Textile Product Design - Integrates hand and computer skills to create original designs, illustrations, graphics and prints exclusive to Target for assigned brands that achieve overall creative objective.  Where applicable, may research, develop, and recommend core palette, accent colors, and colorway combinations to product design each season.  Develop and recommend pattern flow by merchandised delivery for assigned brand. Translates textile designs into development packets that specify art product attributes. Ensures design package is complete and handed off, on time, to Technical Development team for execution.  
  • Development - Collaborate with Technical, Sourcing, and Global partners to ensure textile designs are producible and meet set price points.  As needed, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve textile production and pricing issues by proposing alternative printing and/or techniques. Uses artistic ability to edit and make changes to original designs that integrates key partner feedback. 
  • Develop an understanding of business and assortment strategies.  Implement design concepts consistent with appropriate trend and branding strategies.
  • Actively participate in project analysis to facilitate continuous process improvements, manage resources efficiently, and optimize all aspects of the textile development process.
  • Interact and develop relationships with Product Designers, Technical, Merchant, Sourcing, and Color Office to exchange ideas, leverage expertise and streamline the textile design process.
  • May participate in the coaching and professional development of Interns, Associates and/or provide direction to freelance artist.
  • Lead & coach art development with additional freelance designers add needed.  Clear communication, art direction, and deliverables.
  • Identify and participate in training and development opportunities designed to improve professional skills and personal growth.
  • Seasoned Senior Textile Designers generally have larger or more complex divisions or business segments to support and generally have a higher proficiency and expertise in category.
