Group Fitness Instructor - Kids Zumba Position Details

Status: Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt 

Hours:  Varies

Salary:  Starts at $16.00 - $30.00/hr (depending upon qualifications)

Location: Eden Prairie Community Center

Reporting Relationship:  Reports to Recreation Supervisor- Fitness

Community Center Division

The Eden Prairie Community Center consists of state-of-the-art facilities, recreation programs and fitness activities designed to help our residents Live Well! The Community Center facilities include a fitness center with top-of-the-line cardio equipment, resistance training and free weights, three group fitness studios, two specialized dryland training areas, two eight-lane, 25-yard lap pools with two diving boards and a climbing wall, a zero-depth entry recreation pool, spa, water slide, two full-sized racquetball courts, three ice rinks, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a family locker room and several meeting room facilities available for private parties, meetings and gatherings.

Position Responsibilities

The fitness instructor instructs group fitness classes at the Eden Prairie Community Center. This position will teach group fitness classes in a variety of formats. This position may substitute for group fitness classes in a variety of formats. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

1)   Provides instruction in a variety of fitness activities and formats.

2)   Ensures members’ needs are met through personal recognition and by providing quality service.

3)   Monitors the well-being of all participants throughout exercise program.

4)   Assumes a leadership role as a professional in the area of fitness and wellness.

5)   Encourages participants to continue with exercises and make healthy choices.

6)   Ensures that a safe and healthy environment exists for exercising.

7)   Instructors enforce all fitness facility policies, rules and regulations.

8)   Assists in the cleaning and general maintenance of the fitness area.

9)   Arrives well prepared; music cued, routine thought out, ample time for setup and to greet participants prior to start of class.

While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Position Requirements

Education: Group exercise certification (ACE, NETA, AEA or equivalent) and First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required.

Work Experience: Experience teaching group fitness classes, specifically Zumba and Kids Zumba. Experience teaching a variety of group fitness classes is preferred.

 Sound Judgment: Able to make a decision based on the right mixture of facts; determines a course of action after weighing and analyzing different options.
