Description: ASSOCIATE HYBRID TECHNICAL DESIGNER - HANDBAGSDescription: Develops, executes and refines the technical development process (end-to-end) to ensure product adherence to quality standards established for Target's Owned Brands.Contributes to the design process to deliver on the creative vison and seasonal strategy throughout the product development life cycle. Supports and/or leads guest insights research, fit studies & guest events to inform design & technical initiatives for the accessories team. 70% technical design / 15% design / 15% projectResponsibilities:
  • Develop a strong understanding of Target Owned Brand aesthetics and product expectations
  • Support the creative design process post sketch review by executing and translating detailed tech packs from r&d and development to production
    • Interpret ideas quickly into a clear and logical format using CADs to create technical packets documenting measurements, materials, trim details and packaging requirements
    • Route packets and own vendor communication throughout the product lifecycle including post-production follow ups
    • Provide clear communication with the team and your vendor partners ensuring ALL deadlines are met and adhered to
  • Ensure construction details meet and/or exceed guest and brand quality expectations
  • Support alignment to merchant line plans, sourcing goals, assortment strategies, price points and overall creative direction
    • Actively participate in sample reviews with design, merchandising and sourcing partners
    • Make technical design recommendations to solve for potential production, quality and/or costing issues ensuring Target Brand standards are maintained and consistent
    • Work with PSQA as necessary
  • Partner with vendors to inform of changes to Target's technical process and provide feedback when vendors are not meeting expectations
  • Maintain familiarity with the industry and acute awareness of the handbag market
    • Research benchmarks to remain current on details, sizing and construction standards
    • Research the market and utilize trend resources to maintain a strong understanding of the retail landscape
  • Support and/or lead guest research initiatives utilizing internal and external resources (guest insights team, studio connect, focus groups, store intercepts, surveys, market research, etc) to inform product and category changes and/or enhancements
  • Maintain adherence to process & calendar
    • Diligent approach to workload, maintaining good, timely communication with business partners, team members and CFTs
    • Be proactive in predicting and overcoming roadblocks in process
  • Be a committed and collaborative team player who can be counted on to do their part and be relied on to work cooperatively with others
  • Core role will support Universal Thread and Shade & Shore
Job Requirements:
  • 2-3 years design experience preferably in handbags
  • Bachelor's Degree in Apparel Design
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) with adept design & sketching skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks
  • Collaborate with strong problem solving and creative thinking skills
  • Positive with a high level of accountability and elevated taste level
  • Curiosity around sustainable practices and circular design
