Job Summary:

Assist with growing, planting and caring for all living plants as well as installing and maintaining all artificial plants and décor to provide an aesthetically pleasing environment for guests, community members and employees.

Job Duties:

1. Assists in greenhouse operation which includes growing, planting and maintaining plant materials for both indoor and outdoor use.
2. Assist in planting and maintaining native and non-native plants in SMSC outdoor landscape projects. Operates light and heavy equipments.
3. Mixes and applies chemicals used in horticultural applications. Keeps accurate records of chemicals applied.
4. Participates in projects as assigned to include constructing landscaped areas, planting or replanting beds, installing seasonal displays and objects, and some fabrication.
5. Plants, weeds and waters all flowerbeds and landscaping areas. Operates small equipment, such as trimmers, to maintain landscape.

You will be working at the new Hocokata Ti (SMSC Cultural Center).

1. Combination of education and/or experience in horticulture, botany, landscape or related field to equal two year
2. MN non-commercial pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
3. Experience with all types of pesticides
4. Demonstrated ability to operate a fork lift, skid loader and related landscape/snow removal equipment
5. Valid driver's license with good driving record
6. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
7. Exposure to temperature extremes of summer heat, rain, wind and winter conditions.
8. Outside work 60% of time.
9. Exposure to fumes and odors.
