Position Summary Information Position Summary The Library & Archives Department at St. Catherine University invites applications for a Head of Archives & Special Collections, a 0.83 FTE (10 months) exempt position. The Head of Archives & Special Collections provides leadership, vision, and administration for all aspects of St. Catherine University’s archives and manuscript collections in all formats. Major areas of the department include the University Archives, Special Collections, and Digital Collections. This position develops, preserves, and makes publicly available the physical and digital collections. In addition, this position is charged with developing the Special Collections emphasizing women’s leadership and Catholic social teaching. This position pursues opportunities to preserve, showcase, and provide access to voices of women, especially women in religion, art, and writing. Internal applicants only.


Responsibilities:
• Manage, preserve, and provide access to the Archives and Special Collections.
• Acquire University records of long-term value from offices, faculty, students, and alumni.
• Digital asset management of the Archives and Special Collections.
• Provide research and information literacy support as it pertains to primary resources, archives, and special collections.
• Supervise student employees and graduate assistants.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications:
• Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution.
• A minimum of two years of professional experience in library archives/special collections.
• Knowledge of current archival standards and practices, including DACS and EAD.
• Understanding of records management and records retention.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
• Experience in digital preservation and digital asset management.
• Familiarity with primary resource literacies and ability to integrate them into the curriculum in a variety of disciplines.
• Basic understanding of intellectual property and copyright issues pertaining to special collections and records management.
• Strong service orientation.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and creatively in a rapidly changing environment.
• Strong and effective organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
• Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with and respond to a diverse community in a manner that is professional, helpful, and respectful.

Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications:
• Certified Archivist.
• Experience with archival, digital collection, and preservation software systems.
• Advanced understanding of intellectual property and copyright issues pertaining to special collections and records management.
• Experience teaching information and primary source literacies and familiarity with contemporary theories, models, and best practices associated with information and primary source literacies.
• Ability to seek and leverage opportunities for integrating archives and special collections services and resources into the university curriculum and to promote the library's key role in enhancing teaching and learning.
• Experience advocating for the library/archives role on campus.
