Description: Job Title: Lead Dangerous Goods Program Manager

Dept.: Legal Affairs, CC&E

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Lead Dangerous Goods Program Manager directs and oversees the Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance program. This position collaborates with business leaders to develop DOT program strategies to comply with domestic ground, oversea, and air shipments.In addition, this position will provide direction on regulatory inspection responses and routinely interact with government agencies. This position serves as a subject matter expert on DOT, International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG), and International Air Transportation Association (IATA) compliance regulations and program strategies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads the program for managing day-to-day compliance with DOT shipping requirements.

Develops the compliance strategy for enterprise-wide DOT shipping requirements and programs

Provides direction on escalated transportation or shipping issues

Maintains a deep knowledge of DOT, IMDG, and IATA regulations and program strategies

Informs relevant business partners on transportation and shipping compliance risks

Directs responses to regulatory inspections and other enforcement activity

Provides subject matter expertise for transportation and shipping regulations

Develops and maintain training strategies to meet transportation and shipping requirements

Prioritizes transportation and shipping obligations and directs resources for successful outcomes

Leads cross functional teams in the development and execution of short and long term compliance solutions

Owns the budgeting process, which may include managing an annual expense budget

Leads the development of sustainable best practices for transportation and shipping compliance management

Participates in trade associations to understand industry trends and to gather insight on best management practices

REPORTING/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to the Director, Corporate Compliance

Internally, establishes and maintains working relationships with business leaders to achieve compliance objectives

Externally, establishes and maintains working relationships with consultants and leads interactions and discussions with regulatory agencies

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

BA/BS college degree, preferably in environmental sciences, engineering, chemistry, safety, or related field

Minimum 5 years relevant experience in transportation and shipping compliance

Expert in DOT compliance regulations

Familiarity in IMDG, IATA, and United States Postal Service (USPS) shipping and compliance regulations.

Experience translating laws, rules, and regulations to business teams

Strong critical thinker and problem-solving skills

Ability to influence others and build consensus

Demonstrated ability to build relationships, manage conflict and act with urgency.

Knowledge of computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite of Applications

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Some travel required on a project by project basis

Certified Dangerous Goods Professional (CDGP) Certification

Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Certification
