Status:  Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt

Hours:  Monday - Friday   8:00am - 5:00pm  (varies)

Salary:  Starts at $12.00 per hour

Location: Community Center

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Senior Recreation Supervisor - Youth Development

Recreation Division

The Recreation Services Division has the responsibility for managing all recreation facilities and providing a variety of affordable recreation programs and services for all age groups and people of all abilities. The staff in this division are responsible for the management of facilities such as the Community Center, the Senior Center, and the Outdoor Center, as well as all other City park buildings and recreation facilities such as swimming beaches, sledding hill, amphitheater and facilities on school property that are operated in partnership with the School District such as the Oak Point Pool and tennis courts at CMS.

Position Responsibilities

The Adaptive Recreation Program Instructor assists the Adaptive Recreation Lead with implementing programs for individuals with disabilities. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are: 

  1. Within a team environment assist with the delivery of programs for individuals with disabilities that enhance social, physical, and emotional skills.
  2. Actively engage with participants in activities.
  3. Ability to monitor the safety and well-being of participants by managing behaviors.
  4. Adapts activities and models appropriate social behavior.
  5. Encourage participants to be as independent as possible and respects each participant’s unique learning style.
  6. Provides high quality customer service by consistently exhibiting an enthusiastic attitude; greeting participants with a smile, eye contact, and personalized message; responding to questions with accurate information or referring them to an appropriate contact.
  7. Supports Adaptive Program Lead with set up/take down and planning of activities.
  8. Communicates with parents/guardians, program staff, and supervisor about the program and participant progress.
Position Requirements

Education:  High School Diploma in Progress; Two-year degree or higher preferred; CPR (infant, child and adult) and First Aid certification within first 30 days of employment required and must keep their certification current each year.

Work Experience: Basic child development education background or knowledge preferred; experience working with individuals with disabilities, specifically Autism Spectrum preferred; demonstrate patience, flexibility, communication, organization, resourceful, and maintain confidentiality

Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). CPR/Basic First Aid training (or willing to be trained).
