Status: Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt
Hours: Standard business hours (8am-5:00pm), may vary based on business need
Salary: Starts at $10.00
Location: Various parks in Eden Prairie
Reporting Relationship: Reports to Sr. Recreation Supervisor - Youth Development
Recreation DivisionThe Recreation Services Division has the responsibility for managing all recreation facilities and providing a variety of affordable recreation programs and services for all age groups and people of all abilities. The staff in this division are responsible for the management of facilities such as the Community Center, the Senior Center, and the Outdoor Center, as well as all other City park buildings and recreation facilities such as swimming beaches, sledding hill, amphitheater and facilities on school property that are operated in partnership with the School District such as the Oak Point Pool and tennis courts at CMS.
Position ResponsibilitiesThe Camp Counselor/Day Camps is a Program Instructor I position. This position assists in the development and organization of the summer programs that promote enjoyment, health and safety of all participants. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
1) Assists with program facilitation plans and group activities in camp setting.
2) Organizes and facilitates outdoor activities (i.e., camping, canoeing, sailing, fishing).
3) Oversees all activities and ensures a safe, friendly, and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants.
4) Communicates with the parents of the campers on a daily basis.
5) Ensures all supplies are ready for the proper facilitation of the daily lesson plans.
6) Is on time and enthusiastic to perform the requested job responsibilities.
While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.
Position RequirementsEducation: Must be at least 16 years of age by the orientation training date of June 7, 2019; CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Work Experience: Previous experience working with children required; experience developing and implementing programs and activities preferred; experience in budgeting, promotion, and good communication skills preferred.
