Job Summary:

Assist Land Department staff with maintaining, reconstructing and restoring prairie, woodland and forested systems. This includes performing manual labor necessary to develop and maintain natural areas through management activities such as non-native, invasive species removal, farming and small equipment operation, planting native grasses, forbs, shrubs and trees and collecting and analyzing data.

Job Duties:

1. Assist in habitat restoration and management projects.
2. Apply chemical treatment to undesirable vegetation under the direction of a certified pesticide applicator. Assist in compliance actions at the direction of supervisory staff..
3. Collect plant and animal data in the field.
4. Serve as a wild land firefighter and assist with implementation of prescribed fire to manage prairie and woodland habitats.
5. Manage natural areas using tractors, implements, power and hand tools at the direction of supervisory staff. Maintain equipment and make minor repairs as necessary.

1. Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, Biology, Botony or related field.
2. Knowledge of farm machinery, small engines, chain saws, brush-saws, UTV's, trailers, etc.
3. Experience applying field sampling and field work protocols
4. Valid driver's license required with a good driving record.
5. Experience using Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geogrpahic Information Systems (GIS) (i.e. ArcMap, ArcCollector, Survey123, etc.)
6. Wild Fire Certification or ability to obtain one within one year of hire.
7. Current valid Minnesota Pesticide Applicator license (categories A & J) or ability to obtain one within two-months of hire, willingness to work with herbicidess
8. Qualified as NWCG Fighterfighter Type 2 (S-130/190)
9. Strong math skills.
10. Ability to work as a team member or independently with a positive attitude.
11. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
12. On feet or standing 60% of shift.
13. Outside work 80% of time.
14. Exposure to summer heat, rain, wind and winter conditions.
