OVERVIEW

Assistant Professor: The Department of Mathematics at the University of St. Thomas invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in Actuarial Science.

The University of St. Thomas is a liberal arts institution located in St. Paul, Minnesota that values excellence in teaching and research. The 20-member Department of Mathematics (http://www.stthomas.edu/mathematics) offers bachelor's programs in mathematics, mathematics education, and actuarial science, and supports the interdepartmental degree program in statistics and is quite active in the area of undergraduate research. The Actuarial Science Program (http://www.stthomas.edu/actuarialscience) offers a Bachelor of Science degree and is located in the Department of Mathematics. The Actuarial Science Program is recognized as a Center of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries. The Center for Applied Mathematics (http://www.stthomas.edu/cam) is located within the department and supports faculty and student research on a variety of projects.

Duties: The assistant professor will teach primarily undergraduate actuarial science or statistics courses housed in the Department of Mathematics. Expect to teach lower level mathematics courses as well. The standard teaching load for this position is 3 courses per semester. Demonstrate strong potential for an established research agenda in actuarial science. May teach courses such as Actuarial Contingencies ACSC 352-02 and Mathematical Finance ACSC 464-01.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements: Required Education: Ph.D. (U.S. or foreign equivalent) (or ABD near completion) in actuarial science or in a closely related field with emphasis in financial mathematics or statistics. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and show strong potential for productive research/scholarly activities in actuarial science or a closely related field. Applicants should be near completion of actuarial credentials or should possess actuarial credentials from any of the professional societies (passage of ASA or CERA or FSA examinations such as ASA's Exam P, Exam FM, Exam C constitutes near completion) and have research agendas that focus on areas that will contribute to maintaining our status as a Center of Actuarial Excellence.
