JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a great leader to ensure that we fulfill the promise we make to our students starting their freshman year: college completion for all students. The College Persistence Counselor's purpose is to drive and improve 4-year college matriculation and college graduation outcomes for our students. The Counselor will ensure that our DFC alumni are prepared to matriculate into and graduate from a 4-year college or university within 6 years. The Counselor will be responsible for developing our college persistence strategy and programming to ensure that our DFC alum have the skills, resources, and opportunities they need to successfully matriculate to and graduate from 4-year programs. This position reports to the Dean of the Dougherty Family College.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Strategic Planning
Create and execute a short and long-term college persistence strategy to ensure that DFC students matriculate to and graduate from 4-year colleges. Collaborate frequently with the Dean to monitor and adjust the college persistence strategy. Set, track, and aggressively monitor long-term college persistence goals and annual milestones with the Dean.

Direct Student Support
Manage a college persistence caseload of 300+ students to support their matriculation to and graduation from a 4-year institution. Maintain regular communication with students through social media, email, texting, phone calls, one-on-one meetings, small group meetings and other technological avenues. Help students progress towards college completion through proactive advising, tailored interventions, and targeted programming.

Program Development and Execution
Design, launch, and implement programming designed to meet the needs of our DFC students- potentially including evenings, Saturday, and summer sessions. Oversee the planning of various events for DFC alumni. Work with campus vendors, faculty, current students and other community members to provide college persistence experiences that positively influences graduation objectives.

Data Management

Establish and maintain data tracking systems via Salesforce and GradSnapp to ensure the team can make data-based decisions in strategic planning and advising students and families. Ensure that DFC college persistence data is always up to date and accurate.

Campus Collaboration

Build strong relationships with departments across college campuses that DFC alumni attend or will attend (i.e. financial aid office, academic counseling, registrar's office, student affairs office, academic departments, etc.) to ensure students have access to all the resources necessary to graduate.


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Five years of progressively more responsible experience within college persistence and/or college counseling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with first generation, low income and/or underrepresented students
  • Track record of measurable, exemplary results
  • Solution-orientation
  • Unwavering belief that all DFC students can and will finish college
  • Unwavering determination to do whatever necessary to help DFC students achieve their graduation goals
  • Ability to multitask, work collaboratively, and maintain focus
