About Medtronic, Inc.
Medtronic is the global leader in medical technology ? alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life for millions of people around the world. We redefine how technology is used in the management of chronic diseases including heart diseases, diabetes, neurological disorders, spinal conditions and vascular diseases. Medtronic was founded in a garage in northeast Minneapolis in 1949 as a medical equipment repair shop by Earl Bakken and his brother-in-law, Palmer Hermundslie. Our legacy of innovation began with the first battery-powered, external, wearable heart pacemaker that was first used on a pediatric patient at the University of Minnesota. Since then, we've grown into a multinational company with 40,000 employees who serve more than seven million patients annually in more than 120 countries. Every four seconds, a Medtronic product is used to save or substantially improve someone's life somewhere in the world.
