Target's New Ventures & Accelerators team is a multi-disciplinary team located in Target's HQ location in Minneapolis, in downtown San Francisco and in Target India's Bangalore office.Our diverse team brings together team members from many backgrounds, disciplines and industries.The New Ventures team challenges ourselves and our partners to move quickly to take concept to in-market experiment and accelerate insights on behalf of the enterprise.Our Accelerator team brings the strength and expertise of Target together to make Target the preferred retail partner for startups.

You will work on a team of designers, researchers, strategists, concept leads and engineers all working towards transforming Target's business. You'll work at the intersection of UX, design, and development, to create innovative experiences that bridge the physical and digital.

You will bring your unique experience design background to bear in the development of solutions for testing with real people, and iterate to gain learnings and drive toward full-scale commercialization. You will have the rare opportunity to work at the leading edge of retail and consumer products and services in a high-profile position with widespread organizational impact.

The candidate must effectively analyze guest needs, corporate strategies, enterprise capabilities, and market opportunities to generate high-potential concepts that extend beyond today's core business. The candidate will be empowered to work entrepreneurially, challenge current thinking and practices, and create consumer and business value in ways unlikely to emerge from the existing enterprise as part of a lean, multi-disciplinary team.

In this role, you will:

Act as leader for a cross-geo design and research team; travel will be expected 15% of your time

Lead a team to deliver thoughtfully designed concepts in support of new growth opportunities for Target, across various categories and divisions, using design thinking, human factors research, ethnography and other techniques

Act as a thought leader to inspire our team and partners, as well as shape and scope projects balancing New Ventures' objectives with partner priorities and opportunities.

Prepare and present concept design and proposals to Target executive leaders.

Contribute and shape New Ventures' concept development process such that product, engineering, business and design can operate optimally

Drive research, design strategy and visual direction for new concept development

Inspire, mentor, grow and lead a team of designers with continuous design reviews, partnership and feedback.Be an advocate for their career development and professional growth.

Develop and cultivate a strong sense of community and purpose for the team

Through your team, your team vision, and your design principles, you will create concepts and experiments that bring ideas off the paper that differentiate Target and inspire leaders about the future of retail

Help lead and guide external agencies

About you:

7+ years of experience as a leader in a creative capacity in a design-oriented organization, including two years of direct people management; Experience in design consultancy or agency is strongly preferred; Work experience from within a retail organization is also valuable

Deep expertise in digital and physical design, with a good understanding of all aspects of experience design and ability to translate concepts to any medium or channel

Experience with techniques used in concepting and prototyping new ideas and user-centered research; familiar with proof-of-concept builds and developing low fidelity working prototypes

Experience developing and leading stakeholder relationships through establishing lasting and impactful partnerships

Demonstrated leadership skills and expertise guiding teams and supporting the development of individual team members

You are a passionate and inspiring champion of design as a craft.Your portfolio demonstrates strong design skills showcasing a variety of styles as well as your attention to detail, and includes work done by you and through your teams.

Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, demonstrated and successful ability to influence up and down and communicate with top-level executive leaders at Target.

Passionate and curious about the cultural and socio-economic changes affecting our guests and shaping the future of retail.

Experienced and well-versed in a variety of methodologies and practices emphasizing conceptual development, proof of concept, market and design research, new product or service development
