Veterans Upward Bound Project Director

 

The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) Program seeks applications from individuals for a fixed-term, non-teaching, academic staff person, Student Services Program Manager II.  VUB is designed to motivate and assist veterans in the development of academic and other skills necessary for acceptance and success in a program of postsecondary education. The program provides assessment and enhancement of basic skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring and academic instruction in the core subject areas. The director is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing the curriculum services and activities scheduled throughout the year. Supervise project staff; assure the maintenance of project records and write and submit grants and annual performance reports. Utilize in-person, written and web-based information to recruit, and guide potential and current students. Provide academic advising to veterans on entering college.  Qualified candidates a Bachelor’s degree in Education Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field. Proven leadership and/or senior administrative experience, and history working directly with veterans/organizations serving veterans. 

Preferred Qualifications include a Master’s degree in Education Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field, a minimum of 5 years progressively responsible professional experience demonstrated through advancement in responsibilities and/or position, budgetary experience, prior military experience a plus, Familiarity with interpreting federal regulations and/or policies and procedures, Ability to work with a diverse population from different socio-economic backgrounds, knowledge of and experience with developing advising services, and implementing curriculum services for  nontraditional students, working knowledge of database management or experience with on-line learning tools and programs is also preferred.
