A role on the Marketing Guest Insights (MGI) team means being a champion for our current and future guests, and inspiring the organization to act in their best interest. Here, you'll lead the consumer research that helps Target Marketing and Merchandising seize our most valuable and important opportunities. You'll distill relevant information into insights and implications that answer the ever-critical question: “So what?” Your influence will help spark original ideas and actionable strategies for our enterprise partners including Marketing, Merchants, Retail Brand Experiences and Owned Brand Development.

As the Director, Shopper Insights, you will consult, influence and guide senior leaders in defining Target's approach to shopper insights, and on how best to leverage this new capability to make more guest-centric decisions for Target's in-store environment. You will scope, design and execute of a variety of complex insights projects in partnership with internal and external partners. You will help design and facilitate experiential learning sessions that inspire leaders to act. You will play a leadership role on the MGI team, helping shape the team's future and execute the day-to-day.  And, you will teach and coach others across the team.

About you

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree
  • 12+ years of market research experience
  • At least 10 years of experience in shopper insights
    • Expert understanding of behavioral insights and how to translate them into optimized retail experiences
    • Well versed in system one and system two thinking and how to apply both to shopper research
    • Extensive experience creating and applying a wide variety of shopper insights tools, including journey maps, decision trees and methodologies based in neuroscience
  • Strong quantitative market research experience
    • Deep experience in designing and conducting a broad array of approaches such as tracking, positioning/messaging, segmentation, A&U, MaxDiff, conjoint, and pricing studies
    • Experience working with complex analytics, e.g., choice modeling, predictive modeling, segmentation
  • Intimate understanding of what a great insight looks like and how to get there
  • Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate complex findings to focus on the critical implications and actionable opportunities
  • Strong communicator who can bring powerful insights and ideas to life through expertly crafted narratives
  • Master facilitator who can design and execute thoughtful and impactful immersive experiences that drive guest empathy and make insights sticky
  • Desire and ability to develop others and create an environment in which colleagues thrive and deliver world-class results
