PRINCIPAL - ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMS
Full Time - 12 months
Compass Programs CAPE, Teen Pregnancy Program, Homebound Services, Alexandra House, Anthony Louis Center, District Modified Learning Center, Mid-Level Program, Compass Online.
Compass Programs currently has 2 assistant principals.
Provide leadership and coordination for planning, implementation, and assessment of programming related to improvements in providing a safe, disciplined learning environment with emphasis on positive school climate.
The position will focus on building an academics-focused culture of achievement and will oversee progress toward our student behavior goals, manage consequence and discipline systems, and support the District to lead staff in implementing student discipline; respond directly to student discipline issues; enforce and apply the district’s policy regarding the maintenance of discipline and attendance within the school.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
Facilitate the implementation of the district discipline policy in order to create consistency throughout the district so all students can grow and learn in a safe environment:
Best Practices in Student Discipline K-12: Identify resources, models and best practices for improving student discipline and school climate.
Positive Behavior Intervention and Planning K-12: Proactively plan and execute systems to drive positive student behavior and create an academics-focused culture of achievement.
Discipline Guidance and Compliance with State and Federal Laws K-12 / State Discipline Reporting K-12: Compile and analyze District, State, and Federal discipline data, summaries, and trends to assist in developing responsive prevention and intervention strategies.
Policy Interpretation and Guidance K-12: Lead the development and coordination of District and community resources to provide a safe, disciplined learning environment. Lead and facilitate school staff in implementing applicable resources and models. Lead the development and coordination of District and community resources to provide discipline prevention and intervention services and resources to schools.
Crisis Management as it Relates to Student Behavior K-12: Lead, coordinate, and represent school administration in the student discipline process.
Conflict Resolution as it Relates to Discipline K-12: Facilitate the communication of the discipline policy to staff, parents, and students. Advise parents, administrators and other staff regarding student discipline.
Transfers (Outside the In-District Transfer Application Process) K-12
Manifestation Determinations K-12
Expulsions K-12: Coordinate the expulsion/exclusion process by establishing and maintaining procedures, which reflect the current "best practice" models.
Facilitate/provide staff development on student discipline policy, procedures, best practices, and legal requirements. Train all District Assistant Principals in Discipline Philosophy, Best Practices, Prevention, Investigations, Adherence to the Pupil Fair Dismissal Act, Discipline of Students Receiving Special Education Services.
Discipline Policy Committee Chair.
Attend Principal Meetings
Other duties as assigned by Elementary and Secondary Associate Superintendents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
License: Requires Current MN Secondary Principal or K-12 Principal License.
Requires a minimum of five years of K-12 educational leadership experience, (including a minimum of two years in a school-based administrator position preferred), with demonstrated results in improving academic performance of students. Effective oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills.
Extensive knowledge of the District Student Code of Conduct. Knowledge and understanding of the management of K-12 education student conduct systems and policies. Experience and ability to conduct investigations. Knowledge of crisis intervention and advocacy principles and practices.
Successful experience in working with diverse populations. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents/guardians, and community. Experience and ability to work with highly complex and difficult student and family situations. Experience and ability to effectively manage complex and emotional situations involving student behavior and conduct/discipline policy violations. Experience and ability to remain even-tempered and discreet during complex situations involving student behavior and conduct/discipline policy violations.
Experience and ability to establish and implement short-and-long range goals, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement. Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Experience and ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops. Experience and ability to evaluate, make recommendations for change.
Salary: $112,650 - $131,079, DOQ, plus an excellent flex benefits package.
Start Date: 7/1/19.
