OVERVIEW

The Department of Music at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to act as the Director of Choral Activities. The anticipated date of appointment is September 1, 2020.

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for the artistic leadership and administration of all aspects of the University of St. Thomas choral program, which encompasses five choirs averaging a total enrollment of over 200 students per semester from across the University. Responsibilities will include conducting Chamber Singers (a mixed vocal ensemble of roughly 40 members) and Concert Choir (a mixed vocal ensemble of roughly 70 members) and providing support and leadership for the directors of Liturgical Choir (in collaboration with Campus Ministry), Donna Unite, and Jazz Singers, as well as for the accompanists and student staff. In addition to Fall and Spring choral concerts, the Director of Choral Activities will work closely with faculty, staff and the artistic director in preparing for and performing the Christmas Concert, and will be responsible for planning and conducting the triennial international choir tour. Other teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels that fit the candidate's talents and experience and the department's needs will complete the teaching responsibilities. Active and sustained engagement in professional activities beyond St. Thomas is also expected, as is advising, committee participation, and departmental service (including auditions, juries, budget administration, recruiting and other duties).

QUALIFICATIONS

Doctorate in music (DMA or PhD) is required; alternatively ABD will be considered. The successful candidate will possess evidence of the highest levels of choral teaching, artistic excellence, robust rehearsal and conducting techniques, current knowledge of diverse choral repertoire and administrative skills.
