Position Summary

The Library & Archives at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full time Cataloging and Metadata Librarian. As our faculty, students, and staff encounter an increasingly complex and dynamic resource environment, the library is an essential partner in helping the St. Catherine community navigate, use, and participate in this rich landscape. This support includes robust resource description, metadata services, and digital collections support.

The successful candidate will facilitate the discovery of all collections and resources, including digital, through a keen understanding of cataloging, authority control, and metadata practices as well as an enthusiasm for integrating the work of cataloging and metadata services into the libraries' learner-centered environment.

Responsibilities:
• Creates and manages metadata for Library and archival resources in all formats so that they are discoverable, accessible by users, and manageable by staff.
• Maintains knowledge of national and international cataloging, resource description, and metadata standards and applies this knowledge to Library's resources.
• Works with consortial colleagues to maintain and implement cooperative cataloging practices, policies and projects.
• Supports research and scholarly creation for students, faculty, and staff through providing metadata management assistance directly with researchers as well as cooperatively maintaining the institutional repository with other librarians and archivist.
• Works to ensure interoperability and integration of digital data with the Library's collections and University strategic needs.
• Provides collection management oversight and planning through streamlining internal workflows and procedures around maintaining the Library's print, digital, and electronic collections.
• Provides project management for Library collection projects.
• Generates and analyzes statistical data about collections to inform collection development decisions.
• Supervises student employees to perform Library collection processing, maintenance and collection management projects.
• Serves on Library and University committees and attends professional development activities.
• Engages in scholarship, professional development, and other activities related to the development and growth as an academic and professional librarian.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications:
• Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution.
• Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging practices and standards.
• Understanding and experience implementing metadata standards.
• Experience with integrated library systems and discovery layers (e.g., Ex Libris Alma and Primo).
• Demonstrated understanding of database indexing to enhance discovery of resources.
• Knowledge of digital asset management systems (e.g., CONTENTdm).
• Familiarity with cataloging tools, applications, and systems (e.g., Classification Web, Cataloger's Desktop, OCLC Connexion).
• Strong service orientation.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and creatively in a rapidly changing environment.
• Strong and effective organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
• Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with and respond to a diverse community in a manner that is professional, helpful and respectful of all people.
• Excellent attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:
• Understanding of and experience with implementing digitization metadata standards.
• Experience with ExLibris' Alma and Primo integrated library system and discovery layer.
• Experience working cross-functionally to manage projects, workflows, or systems.
• Active participation in professional associations, conferences, and continuing education.
• Effective teaching and mentoring skills.
• Two years of experience cataloging in a library setting.
