ADULT PSYCHIATRIST

Allina Health System has a full-time opportunity for an Adult Psychiatrist at Cambridge Medical Center in Cambridge, MN. The primary duty of the Adult Psychiatrist is to provide psychiatric patient care in behavioral health settings including outpatient mental health; inpatient mental health; and emergency/crisis. This position requires a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree or foreign equivalent from an accredited medical school plus four (4) years of experience in adult psychiatry, which may have been gained during a physician residency program. Must have 12 months of demonstrated experience in each of the following: (1) application of the hospice and palliative medicine approach to improve the quality of life of patients with chronic serious medical illness including etiology-directed symptom management of pain (such as pain assessment and pharmacologic management, referral for radiation therapy, nerve blocks, steroids), nausea, anorexia, complications from other medical treatments, focused goals of care discussions, and allowing the completion of medical/psychiatric advanced directives given their impact on their psychosocial well-being; and (2) providing care to elderly and complex end of life patients with an understanding of changes in metabolism with chronic illness and age. Must also have experience in using psychoanalytic psychotherapy principles and interpretation to determine patient treatment options. All experience may have been gained concurrently. Requires a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Minnesota. Must be Board certified in Psychiatry. Full-time work schedule is 40 hours per week, which can include weekend on-call coverage every 5th to 6th weekend and overnight telephone call coverage 1 to 2 times per week.
