About this Opportunity

Support all business areas of Target with critical data analysis that helps team members make profitable decisions. Utilize analytics tools: decision trees, clustering, regression, time series, structural equation modeling, linear programming, machine learning, text mining, SQL, R, Python, Hive.

As a Sr. Data Scientist you'll:  

  1. Interfaces with Target business representatives to validate business requirements/requests for analysis and present final analytical results   

    1. Develop business acumen and cultivate client relationships 

    2. Study statistical methodologies

  2. Determine best method to gather, model, manipulate and present data  

    1. Keep up to date on industry trends, best practices, and emerging methodologies

    2. Follow appropriate analytical methodology including testing/baseline/measurement/comparators strategy 

    3. Identify data sources

  3. Performs statistical analysis to support business needs.  

    1. Gathers required data and performs data analysis to support needs

    2. Evaluates, processes, analyzes, and interprets statistical data  

    3. Interprets results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation to complex data mining and statistical modeling 

    4. Designs, develops, and delivers analytical solutions, resulting in decision support or models

    5. Under guidance, conducts analysis and benefits/risk assessment to estimate outcomes and validate analysis

  4. Communicates to share knowledge and findings 

    1. Presents results in a manner that the business partners can understand 

    2. Communicate impact of proposed solutions to business partners 

  5. Documents analytical methodologies used in the execution of analytical projects 

    1. Participate in knowledge sharing system to support iterative model builds  

    2. Translate scientific methodology to business terms. 

    3. Adheres to corporate information protection standards. 


  • BA/BS in a quantitative degree - Math, Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science or equivalent work experience

  • 3 plus years relevant experience in reporting and data visualization - Domo or Tableau

  • Extensive exposure to: visualization, coding, business consulting, database architecture, data mining, statistical analysis, machine learning and collaboration with business partners

  • Strong knowledge of neuro-linguistic programming and text mining techniques

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Exposure and extensive hands on work with large data sets
