Position Details

Status: Part-time ongoing position, non-exempt

Salary: Starts at $12.50 to $13.00 per hour (full range up to $16.00 per hour)

Benefits: Does not qualify for benefits

Location: All City Buildings

Hours: morning/afternoon/evening/weekend shifts available; varies based upon business need

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Facilities Supervisor

Facilities Division

The Facilities Division is responsible for the daily operations, preventive maintenance, remodeling and long term maintenance programs of the major facilities owned by the City and spaces leased by the City.  Total square footage of these facilities is about 1 million square feet. The major facilities include the City Center, Community Center, Senior Center, Water Plant, Utilities Garage, Maintenance Facility, four Fire Stations, Building 51, the Den Road Liquor Store, the Outdoor Center, Park Shelters and Historical Buildings.  The leased spaces include 2 of the 3 Liquor Stores and the Housing and Community Services space at the Eden Prairie Mall.

Position Responsibilities

The Building Support position supports the Facilities Division to ensure smooth operations by effectively keeping the facilities safe, clean, and efficient. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are: 

  1. Maintains the City Facilities by performing preventive maintenance, different room setups, maintains the City ice rinks and pool facilities by performing ice rink maintenance, pool maintenance. General basic repairs in all City buildings.
  2. Provides service to customers for effective and efficient execution of City events (i.e. set-up and breakdown of facilities, meeting and event set-up, and assembly); provides a safe, friendly and enjoyable atmosphere for all community center guests.
  3. Assists building engineers with monitoring equipment to ensure that the building’s systems perform efficiently and safely.
  4. Maintains and improves the appearance and operation of City facilities by performing minor repairs.  
  5. Supports division cross-function initiatives by developing skills, applying technical knowledge, and assisting with projects.

Position Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required; technical degree in related field preferred.

Work Experience: Customer services experience and basic computer skills required. Related experience preferred such as building maintenance and equipment experience, community center/fitness center experience, ice resurfacer and pool experience, but will train.

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to lift/pull/push/move/carry up to 65 lbs, and the ability to bend/stand/reach. Knowledge and physical ability to operate hand tools and vehicles, current valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.

Availability/Hour Requirements: Availability to work evenings and/or weekends preferred., Morning and day shifts available.
