A role with the Design team means a big opportunity to start from scratch and create something truly original. Then you'll have success on our Design team who owns the design and development of all Target-owned brands, from apparel to home goods, and beauty to essentials. In close partnership with our merchant and sourcing counterparts, you'll drive brand cohesion and continuity, ensuring that our products meet the merchant line plans, assortment strategies, price points and overall creative direction.

As an AssociateDesigner, you will support and be help develop the Owned Brand product brands and/or categories that achieve overall product design strategy and merchant objectives. Under the overall direction of Design leadership, you will work with an assigned category, brand, business or guest segment and follow the process and calendar. You will be expected to maintain a diligent approach to workload, with includes good, timely communication with internal and external partners. You'll support concepts and the design vision throughout the development process, research, selection of materials/finishes, and the creation of silhouettes. Using CAD/hand sketches, you'll translate ideas for product direction. This includes preparing professional presentation boards with illustrations, CAD artwork, fabrication, and material samples. In addition, you will support developing product designs to maintain overall creative direction, merchant line plans, assortment strategies, and price points. You'll gain knowledge on how to build brand cohesion through partnering with peers to ensure continuity.

This is an entry level position responsible for collaborating with and supporting the Design team in researching, designing and developing product from concept through execution. Gains knowledge of design and product development processes at Target.

  • Collaborate with the Design team in researching, designing and developing product by classification from concept through execution
  • Create and design product through sketches, renderings, models and control drawings that meet Merchant price-points
  • Develop and demonstrate a clear point-of-view/vision for the brand/product using trend ideas and inspiration. Independently selects materials (including fabric, tear samples, color, etc) to demonstrate clear point-of-view for brand/product
  • Identify recurring patterns and translates inspiration into a saleable trend using multiple sources of media (competitive shopping, runway shows, pop culture, etc.) and creative intuition
  • Collaborate with Merchants and Technical Development team to ensure product designs are manufacturable and meets set price-points. Uses artistic ability to edit or make changes to original designs that integrates key feedback and attains Merchant buy-in
  • Attend development meetings to represent Designer point-of-view as appropriate. Must use judgment/discretion to make decisions on product direction and changes or escalate appropriately

Requirements
  • 4-year Degree in design, textiles, fine art or related degree
  • 0-2 years of experience in product design
  • Technical skills: Photoshop/Illustrator or basic computer design system skills
  • Demonstrated creative sense and ability including technical/CAD sketching ability and trend/market awareness
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to do creative, focused, visual presentations
  • Ability to multi-task, demonstrated sense of urgency and ability to meet multiple deadlines
