Position Summary

The Department of Residence Life at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full time Area Director. Our mission is to support the education of women to lead and influence. This position supports that mission by facilitating the development of a living and learning environment for a diverse body of students living on campus. The Area Director is a live-on, 12-month position. During the academic year, the Area Director is responsible for the supervision, evaluation, and development of a Residence Coordinator (Graduate Student) who supervises up to 18 RAs, with a focus on student interaction, community development, safety, and learning and engagement, ultimately impacting student retention and satisfaction with Residence Life and the university. The Area Director is expected to be known, visible and active within the Residence Life Program and the St. Catherine University Community by interacting with residents, providing information and assistance concerning academic issues, peer conflicts and personal concerns. This position also serves in an on-duty capacity for all residential students and families. As the professional staff person on call, the Area Director is responsible for 24/7 shared conduct and crisis response, some of which requires trips to the hospital. This position continues their on-call and crisis response rotation, committee work, and summer conference support throughout the summer months.

The salary for this full time, exempt position is $35,000, with excellent benefits , including health, dental, vision, an 8% 403b contribution, paid vacation/sick/holiday time, six weeks paid parental leave, and tuition remission.

Responsibilities:
• Assist in development of strategies and initiatives to support, recruit, and retain students with marginalized identities.
• Select, train, evaluate and supervise up to three graduate assistants, 31 paraprofessional staff members, and summer hourly student employees.
• Assist in the administration of the Residence Life Program, including major annual events such as room preview, fall move-in, housing sign-up, staff selection, etc.
• Assist in the recruitment, selection and training of the Residence Life paraprofessional staff.
• Provide coaching, support, and mediation to students in crisis in assigned complex.
• Serve as a liaison to the facilities department and assist the Director of Residence Life in facilities management.
• Oversee staff's educational and social program implementation.
• Work directly with representatives from Public Safety.
• Oversee the direction of Living Learning Communities residing in area, directly supervise paraprofessional staff, and work closely with the Associate Director of Residence Life and faculty partners associated with the LLCs to provide an intentional experience for students.
• Provide leadership and support to work teams focused on Residence Life and University initiatives.
• Utilize data driven and intentional ideas to create experiences to retain students.
• Support student leadership initiatives that engage students and create ties to University (advising RHA / NRHH /PAs, etc).
• Support summer conference and events program.
• Manage and monitor assigned budgets for areas of responsibility.
• Partner intentionally with staff from other departments to support and retain students.
• Assume shared on-call campus duty year-round and coordinate emergency response as needed, which may include coordination with off-campus partners such as local hospitals.
• Transport self to the hospital for student support in a timely manner while serving on duty.
• Serve as a formal conduct hearing officer for the university.
• Assist in the development of Residence Life policies and procedures.
• Ensure that the residence halls are a safe and clean environment that supports the academic pursuits of our students.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications:
• Commitment to leadership and education for a diverse group of women.
• 2-3 years of Residence Life experience.
• Experience supervising/advising student staff.
• Bachelor's degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:
• Master's degree in related field.
