JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

POSITION TITLE: Senior Merchandising Manager                                                                                    

 

REPORTS TO (TITLE): Director of Merchandising                                                                                    

 

DEPARTMENT:  Merchandising                                                      LOCATION: Plymouth                     

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

To develop and maintain within the group a complete and effective merchandise offering.  To plan and develop an aggressive retail program for the dealers.  To aggressively pursue marketing programs to give our dealers the opportunity to become more profitable, and provide direction to the buyers within the group.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Within the group, work with buyers to:

 

            Develop merchandise offerings 

 

            Monitor circular selection, product line reviews, and product selection

 

            Establish gross margins that are profitable for the business and its dealers

 

            Assist the Inventory Management department on a regular basis to insure the proper flow of goods through the distribution channel by identifying and assisting in resolving any issues that may arise

 

            Insure competitive Market programs through merchandise selection, vendor representation

 

            Select product for circulars.  Negotiate pricing and set points for circular merchandise.  Obtain vendor co-op funds

 

            Establish departmental goals that are consistent with the direction set by management that will improve the performance of the department in service and sales to the dealer

 

            Meet with Director of Merchandising regularly to review and provide input on department projects and goals

 

            Work with Dealer Advisory Committees to establish and maintain retail priorities within the department

 

            Work with vendors, sales department and/or dealers to reduce excess inventory and eliminate close out inventory from warehouse

 

Develop and train employees on our computer system, on-line capabilities, daily report reading, daily maintenance, buying philosophy, etc. 

 

Supervise employees who report to this position; review their performance on a regular basis

 

Make sales and dealer presentations

 

Meet with vendors at national shows regarding new products and competitive lines, and to address concerns

 

Respond to dealer and management questions and concerns

 

Resolve complex or difficult issues concerning price, terms, or delivery dates

 

Give timely and meaningful annual reviews to direct reports and, if applicable, review annual reviews of all associates that are given by direct reports

 

Motivate and contribute to the professional development of subordinates

 

Oversee the hiring and development of new team members

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS and/or KNOWLEDGE:

           

Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or similar field, or equivalent education or experience.

 

Five years progressively complex experience in buying roles and assignments in the wholesale or retail

hardware industry, including a minimum two years supervising and managing staff.

 

Knowledge of Company products, services and systems.

 

Strong written, verbal, analytical, negotiating and interpersonal skills.

 

Ability to organize and prioritize work, and to meet deadlines.

 

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

 

 

COMMUNICATION (written & oral):

           

Strong written, verbal, analytical, negotiating and interpersonal skills are required. 

 

Must be able to provide or obtain information regarding basic types of information; must be

Able to explain non-technical and technical matters; must be able to provide advice, counsel or guidance; must be able to resolve conflicts, grievances, or technical disputes on complex and emotional issues.

 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

 

Must be able to perform basic arithmetic (e.g. add, subtract, multiply, or divide), analyze rates and proportions, and perform basic algebraic operations.

 

 

READING ABILITY:

 

Must be able to read instructions, lists or notes. Must be able to read text of medium difficulty requiring understanding of the logic of arguments or methods.

 

 

REASONING ABILITY:

           

Solving easy to apparent problems through probing, inquiry, or research for precise identification

 

Solving problems that require integration of information and considerable independent judgment.

 

Must apply strategic thinking.  Must develop new theories or designs.  Requires creativity.

The employee must occasionally exert up to twenty pounds of force to move objects.

 

 

VISUAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must have near vision, clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must have accommodation of vision – adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus when shifting focal point from one object to another of carrying distances. Must have field of vision – ability to see a specific area up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
