Position Summary

The Department of Public Safety at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full time Manager. This position is responsible for supervision of the department's staff, student work force, and coordination of the day-to-day operations of the Department of Public Safety to ensure the safety, security and protection of students, staff, faculty, and visitors of St. Catherine University and the facilities and property within its campus.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate the daily operations of the Public Safety Department to ensure that the delivery of timely and high quality services is provided for all individuals and departments of the University, and that proper procedures and protocols are followed at all times.
• Supervise the department's supervisor staff; assigns duties and responsibilities, ensures proper training, prepares payroll, evaluates performance, provides staff commendations and performs corrective measures as needed.
• Oversee management of Residence Hall Front Desks.
• Interview and hire staff. Oversee staff corrective actions and discipline.
• Prepare work schedules to ensure adequate staffing coverage.
• Assist with the training and development of personnel. Ensure the maintenance and use of the pass down information & daily tasks.
• Review daily activity reports for accuracy and follow-up action.
• Assist with investigations.
• In the Director's absence, serve as the Public Safety member of the St. Catherine University Emergency Operations staff.
• Assist the Director in program development, information gathering and interdepartmental communications as directed.
• Participate in staff meetings, committees, task forces, and special projects.
• Be available for on-call duty.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications:
• AA/AS degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Communication, Political Science, Law Enforcement, or related field or equivalent training and experience.
• Three years of supervisory experience including hiring and training staff, coaching and discipline, performance reviews, scheduling, etc.
• Three years of experience working in private security, campus security, or related.
• Excellent human relations and communication skills to establish effective working relationships with the variety of people interacted with.
• Ability to respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, in a manner that affirms the worth and preserves the dignity of individuals, families and communities.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:
• Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science (BA/BS) degree in any field, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Communication, Political Science, or Law Enforcement preferred.
• Previous security experience in higher education.
• Thorough knowledge of state and federal criminal/civil law including orders for protection, harassment/restraining orders, City of St. Paul and City of Minneapolis ordinances, legislative mandates, Student Right-To-Know Campus Security (Clery) Act, Campus Security Authority, and the Omnibus Anti-Crime Act.
• Knowledge of advanced investigative procedures.
• Certifications and training in the following areas: Emergency Medical Responder ( EMR ), active shooter response, crisis intervention, fire safety, emergency management, self-defense/defensive tactics, investigation and interrogation, certifications through professional security/public safety organizations, etc.
