The School of Engineering at the University of St. Thomas invites applications for a Part-Time Adjunct Faculty position.

The Part-Time Adjunct Faculty role will have a similar load to teaching one course per semester in the fall and spring. This positions requires an individual to assist the Design Clinic Lead in coordination of the Engineering Design Capstone course series at the University of St. Thomas School of Engineering. In this course, students work on real-world industrially sponsored projects in teams of 4 students over 2 semesters. Student disciplines on each team are based on the project needs and can include: mechanical, electrical, computer, and civil engineering.

Essential Functions

  • Help students develop skills in identifying customer needs, requirements development, complex problem solving, critical thinking, project management, professional communication, team dynamics management, budgeting and continuous learning
  • Develop and deliver lecture content appropriate to catalyze student learning (lectures are MWF 3:25-5pm - Sept.-Dec. and Feb.-May)
  • Meet with student teams to provide advice and expertise on technical or non-technical issues that arise
  • Organize design reviews of student projects; attend student presentations and provide feedback and grading of student work
  • Assess team dynamics monthly and intervene if problems arise
  • Provide help and guidance for team advisors (faculty)

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline
  • 10+ years experience in engineering industry

  • Experience in project management

  • Experience in design & fabrication

  • Experience in cross-disciplinary teams

  • Understanding the difficulties of combined hardware/software projects and how to keep them on track with workload

    balance among team members

  • Systems design and integration experience with validation and verification

  • Ability to relate what a successful student does here to what is required on the job

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in engineering or related discipline
