The University of St. Thomas invites applications for an On-Call Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) within the new Center for Well-Being.

JOB SUMMARY

This position will provide direct patient care to University of St. Thomas students, faculty and staff in the integrative Center for Well-Being in compliance with all medical state license, federal mandates and institutional practice agreement standards. The NP or PA performs medical histories, physical examinations, order lab tests and x-ray exams, prescribe treatments & medications, assures adequate follow-up, obtains consultation or referrals as required, follow standardized charting procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment of health conditions of patients, utilizing established protocols, guidelines and standards of care.
  • Provides comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis and prescribes treatments for medical issues.
  • Performs complete routine physical examinations including interpretation and evaluation of diagnostic test results.
    Assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and preventive counseling and education regarding health needs for students, faculty and staff.
  • Interpretation of patient's medical history, physical exam, and diagnostic tests, and recognition between normal, normal variance, and abnormal findings. Follow up on all abnormal findings by either intervention, counseling, or referral on or off campus.
  • Assessment of psychosocial issues, providing counseling within scope of practice, and making referrals as necessary both on and off campus.
  • Works independently in the clinical setting, and able to work collaboratively with a variety of University of St. Thomas departments, to facilitate a comprehensive experience for all students, faculty and staff.
    Administers urgent care and assists in contacting University Public Safety, paramedics and emergency transport when necessary.
  • Establishes and documents plan of care with complete documentation in accordance with guidelines and standards of practice, using the electronic medical record system.
  • Works cooperatively with the Center for Well-Being staff in providing quality patient care and education.
  • Meets as needed with other providers for chart review, problem- solving, and education
  • Understands supports and complies with the policies and procedures of the University of St. Thomas and Health Services.
  • Functions as a mentor and resource for Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants and support staff to ensure quality of care standards are maintained.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Current Minnesota licensure as a NP or PA
  • Prescriptive authority issued by the Minnesota State Board
  • Current DEA registration
  • Current Board Certification as a NP or PA
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification [CPR]
  • Adult, family practice experience
